My post yesterday on The Chintz Room reminded me of a growing number of solid brunch spots downtown, and with all the summer activities at the Columbus Commons, the Scioto Mile, and everything in-between, I figured it’s an ideal time to highlight three great brunches in the city center.
1. Blind Lady Tavern – I think Blind Lady still sails under the radar. Their space has had a bit of turnover (Jury Room, then 1831 Tavern), but Seth Laufman and his team at Blind Lady are serving up great cocktails and a very welcoming brunch. The menu is fun and approachable: breakfast poutine, little crispy donuts, hunter’s eggs, benedicts, and more.
2. Salt & Pine – I love bringing guests to Salt & Pine on my brunch tour. The food is creative and artfully presented. We keep thinking about the meal we had there on Mother’s Day: a beautifully executed salmon benedict (see the photo above), grits with crispy eggs, and a killer breakfast burrito loaded with chicken tinga.
3. de-NOVO Bistro & Bar – de-NOVO’s brunch has changed since we first visited years ago, but if you look at the current menu you’ll see they still offer some creative items: breakfast nachos, chocolate souffle pancakes, duck hash and eggs. Also, they’re they only place I know serving kangaroo in town – you can get it on a benedict!
